When is the Best Time to Visit the Disneyland Resort?

MatterhornmountainsmallIf you’re main objective is to visit the Disneyland Resort when it has the fewest number of guests, we recommend you plan your Get Away Today vacation for mid January – mid March, mid April – mid May, and mid September – mid November.  You should also book your vacation on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

One of the main benefits of visiting the Disneyland® Resort when there are fewer people inside the park include:

    • Shorter lines for the main attractions
    • You can see more of the park in less time.

Piratessmall However, there is a downside to visiting the Disneyland Resort when it’s less crowded; the two theme parks close earlier in the evening, open later in the morning, and some of the rides might be closed for maintenance.  If you want to visit the two parks when they have extended hours and more entertainment options, then you should plan your vacation on weekends, extended holiday weekends, Christmas, spring break, and anytime during the months of June, July, and August.

Travel news you can use.  This is the Get Away Today.com Travel Show.  Get Away Today is a top provider of affordable, fun family vacations to Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Hawaii, San Diego, Beaches, and Sandals in the Caribbean. The Travel Show is heard exclusively on Get Away Today.com.  And now, here's the host of the Travel Show.

Patrick Wiscombe:  (Get Away Today Internet Marketing Manager)
Welcome to Friday and thanks for listening to the Get Away Today Travel Show podcast.   I’m Patrick Wiscombe, broadcasting live from the lobby of the Holiday Inn Orange County Airport hotel.  The hotel is located 10 miles from the Disneyland Resort and about 10 miles from beach.  Anitra Arreola, Sales Manager for the Holiday Inn Orange County Airport, is sitting next to me.  What a great hotel.  Let’s talk about your hotel and talk about the location.

KingroomAnitra Arreola:  (Holiday Inn Orange County Airport Sales Manager)
We are smack dab in the middle of Orange County.  We’re centrally located to all of the Orange County attractions and we’re right between Disneyland and the beach.

Patrick Wiscombe:  How close are you to Disneyland?

Anitra Arreola:  We’re 10 miles from Disneyland and we offer a complimentary shuttle to Disneyland.  We’re also 8 miles from Laguna beach.

Patrick Wiscombe:  So, you really are in the middle.

    Anitra Arreola:  Yes.

QueenroomPatrick Wiscombe:  With a complimentary shuttle to and from the Disneyland Resort, transportation really isn't an issue for guests who stay at your hotel.

Anitra Arreola:  Take the complimentary shuttle.  We’re also 2.5 miles from the John Wayne / Orange County / Santa Ana airport.  We also offer complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport.

Patrick Wiscombe:  That's a unique feature to your hotel.

Anitra Arreola:  Yes.  The free shuttle is a unique feature to our hotel.

Patrick Wiscombe:  If our guests need a ride from the airport to the Holiday Inn Orange County hotel, how do they do that?

Anitra Arreola:  All they do is call the front desk when they arrive at the airport and we'll come right over and pick them up.

PoolPatrick Wiscombe:  Is there a phone at the airport people have to use?

Anitra Arreola:  No.  They can call the hotel directly.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Okay.  I know we have your phone number on our website.  Just go to Get Away Today.com to get the number.  Do you have a pool?

Anitra Arreola:  We have a wonderful, heated outdoor pool.  We also have an outdoor heated spa.  We have a few poolside rooms that have a small, gated patio.  You can open the gate to get to the pool without walking through the hotel.

Patrick Wiscombe:  That’s only available for rooms on the first floor.

Anitra Arreola:  Yes, only on the first floor.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Let’s talk about the rooms.

Anitras_pictures_001 Anitra Arreola:  Okay.  We have wonderful spacious rooms.  People are always happy to see how spacious our rooms are.   We offer two different rooms.  We have rooms with two queen size beds, instead of double beds.  The queen size beds offer  more room than the double beds.  We also have rooms that have the king size bed and a queen size sofa sleeper so that’s another option for people.  Sometimes people want to sleep three in the king size bed and two in the queen size sofa sleeper so that works as well.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Stick the kids in the king size bed so they can fight over the covers.

Anitra Arreola:  [Laughter] Right.  All of our rooms have in-room refrigerators, microwaves, and coffee makers, which helps families who like to store little goodies and treats in their rooms.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Are these full-size refrigerators or just the little ones?

Anitra Arreola:  There are the little refrigerators.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Do you offer adjoining rooms?

Anitras_pictures_004 Anitra Arreola:  We do have many adjoining rooms and they’re available upon request.  When you make your reservation, you can request one of those rooms.  They are subject to availability.

Patrick Wiscombe:  The rooms are pretty large.

Anitra Arreola:  The rooms are very spacious.  You can even fit a rollaway bed in the room if you need to.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Is the rollaway bed a queen size bed?

Anitra Arreola:  No.  It’s a single bed.  With our rooms, you can fit up to five people in the room.

Patrick Wiscombe:  So a family of five can fit just fine.  Let’s talk about some of the amenities that come with your deluxe rooms.

Anitra Arreola:  Okay.  Our room rates include complimentary parking as well as a complementary hot breakfast buffet for up to five guests staying in the room.

Anitras_pictures_005 Patrick Wiscombe:  That's a huge benefit for families.  When you start factoring in parking charges over a certain number of days, it can add up fairly quickly.  What a great bonus.  I would imagine that guests are really happy about the free parking.

Anitra Arreola:  Oh yes, definitely.  They’re even happier about the breakfast.  The breakfast is a huge benefit for our guests.  It's a hot breakfast buffet as well.  So everyone can fill up on anything they want.  We have eggs, bacon, and sausage.  Just about anything they want to eat.  We also have cereal and yogurt.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Have you noticed when people go on vacation they always eat more.  They realize it’s free so they eat more.

Anitra Arreola:  [Laughter] That’s the beauty of being on vacation - no calories.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Exactly.  That's my excuse.

Anitra Arreola:  Our rooms feature a large desk and comfortable work chair.  Our hotel also has wireless internet running throughout the entire property.  We also have a complementary business center.  If you forgot your laptop, we have a computer here you can use for free.  I can't live without the internet.  [Laughter] We also have free cable with HBO, CNN, ESPN, etc.  We have pay-per-view movies available in the rooms and the USA Today newspaper is free every weekday morning.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Let's talk food.  Do you have an on-site restaurant?

Anitra Arreola:  Yes.  We have an on-site restaurant.  It's called the Panini restaurant.  We serve lunch Monday through Friday.  We also serve dinner every night of the week and just like all Holiday Inn locations, kids under 12 eat free.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Let's talk shopping, what’s close to the Holiday Inn Orange County Airport hotel?

Anitras_pictures_002 Anitra Arreola:  We are close to lots of great shopping.  We are 2 miles from the famous Fashion Island shopping mall.  We're also close to South Coast Plaza.  We are also 1.5 miles from a brand-new shopping center that has everything you would need.  The shopping center has movie theaters, restaurants, a bowling alley, and of course shopping.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Get Away Today guests are listening to this podcast.  What time can our guests check-in to your hotel and what time do they need to check out?

Anitra Arreola:  Our standard check-in time is 3 p.m. and our checkout time is 12 p.m.  If you like to come in a little earlier were always happy to see if you’re room available.  Our fitness room was recently updated with up-to-date equipment.  We have brand new carpet in there.  We have a huge flat screen TV that is mounted on the wall so you can watch it while you're working out.  We've got cardiovascular machines so you have a great workout.  We also have laundry facilities on-site so you can do your laundry.  It's located next to the pool so you can be out swimming while you're waiting for your laundry to get done.  We also offer valet laundry services as well.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Some guests have handicap needs.  I'm assuming you'll be able to accommodate those needs.

Anitra Arreola:  Definitely.  We have several handicap accessible rooms on-site.  Those rooms have a roll- in shower.  All of our handicaps rooms have two queen size beds in them and they are all non-smoking.

Patrick Wiscombe:  (Get Away Today Internet Marketing Manager)
Welcome to the Get Away Today Travel Show podcast.  I’m Patrick Wiscombe broadcasting live from the Anaheim Marriot Suites this afternoon, just south of the Disneyland Resort.   Talk about perfect weather; its 70 degrees right now in Anaheim.  There’s a beautiful blue sky and no clouds anywhere.  What a beautiful time to be in Anaheim.  Wade Stocker the Operations Manager for Get Away Today is in Anaheim with me.  Instead of doing the broadcast from the Anaheim Marriott Suites hotel lobby, we thought we would take you live to the Disneyland Resort.  He joins me via the cell phone somewhere inside the park.  Where are you right now?

Californiascreamin2Wade Stocker: (Get Away Today Operations Directory)
We are over in Paradise Pier near the California Screamin’ roller coaster.

Patrick Wiscombe:  How many times have you been on California Screamin’?

Wade Stocker:  On this trip, I think about six or seven times.  It’s my youngest son’s new favorite ride.  It’s the first time he has dared to go on a roller coaster and now we can’t get him off of it.  [children screaming in the background]

Patrick Wiscombe:  What took off?  Was that the Maliboomer or the California Screamin’?

Wade Stocker:  That’s the California Screamin’.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Where are you in the park right now?

Wade Stocker:  I’m standing on the pier where the roller coaster takes off.

Patrick Wiscombe:  What hotel are you staying in?

P1010128 Wade Stocker:  We’re staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel.  The hotel overlooks Disney’s California Adventure.  The hotel has a beautiful view of the park.  It also has great rooms.  It also has easy access to Disney’s California Adventure.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Take us through your whole day.

Wade Stocker:  We’ve been here for several days now.   The park usually opens around 10 AM.   With your Get Away Today early entry passes, you can get in around 9 AM.  The first day we hit Disneyland Park and went on some of our favorite rides.  We went on Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribbean first.  We went of several times because my kids really enjoy that.  Next, we went on Splash Mountain and The Haunted Mansion.  The Haunted Mansion was decked out for Christmas.  I liked the way it was decorated better than the regular haunted mansion.  The next day we hit Disneyland Park.  We went on Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, and Finding Nemo.  These are some of the newest rides at Disneyland.  They were a blast.

P1010047 Patrick Wiscombe:  How are the lines for Finding Nemo?  I've heard the lines for Finding Nemo are pretty long.  With our Disneyland Parkhopper Bonus Ticket, it allows you to get into the Disneyland Park.  I understand that’s the best time to ride Finding Nemo because the lines are fairly short.  Is that right?

Wade Stocker:  You know, you nailed it right there Patrick.  The best time to ride the Finding Nemo ride is during early entry.  If you go during regular park hours, the wait for the Finding Nemo ride can be one to two hours long.  Everyone I talked to coming off the ride said they loved it.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Even though you were in the park one hour before everybody else, how long did it take you to get through the Finding Nemo ride?

Findingnemo3 Wade Stoker:   Somewhere between 20 to 30 minutes.  It wasn't bad at all.  You get in line and the line keeps moving.   It doesn’t feel like you're in line that long.  Disneyland has done a great job of keeping people moving so everyone can have an enjoyable experience.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Excluding the Finding Nemo ride, how are the lines this time of year?

Wade Stocker:  You know Patrick; I've traveled down here many times during different times of the year.   This is, by far, the best time to go.  The lines are always short this time of year.  I think the longest we've waited in line is maybe 40 minutes.  The rest of the rides are between 10 to 15 minutes.  I would say the majority of rides we just walked right on.

Patrick Wiscombe:  How is the Disneyland Park dressed for HalloweenTime?

Disneyhalloweentime3 Wade Stocker:  As soon as you walk in the Disneyland Park main entrance, they have pumpkins and characters dressed in costumes hanging above the gate.  You just really get in the mood for Halloween.   As you enter the park, you walk around where the flagpole is and that’s where they have a great big Mickey Mouse pumpkin head.  Then as I walked down the Disneyland Main Street, all the light posts have banners on them that have fall colors.  The orange, yellow, and brown fall colors with pumpkins above every window.  As you walk down Main Street they have jack-o'-lanterns with scary faces that light up at night.  You just sense that the holiday season is around the corner.  When the characters and park employees come out and do the “meet and greets” with the audience, they are all dressed up in Halloween costumes.  It is really fun.

Patrick Wiscombe:  For those people who aren’t familiar with the Jedi training academy, what’s that all about?

Jedi4 Wade Stocker:  The Jedi training academy is designed to let kids become young Jedi knights.  Everyone gets to go through Jedi training with a light saber.  They get to learn how to use them.  You learn how to swing the light saber and learn the rules of a Jedi.  You also wear the brown Jedi robes.  Then,  as a surprise, Darth Vader pops up on a stage behind you and the kids get to stand up and fight Darth Vader.  It’s a lot of fun for the kids that are participating.  It is also a lot of fun for the parents who get to watch their kids learn how to swing a light saber and fight Darth Vader.

Patrick Wiscombe:  How many times have you been to the Disneyland Resort with your family?

Wade Stocker:  [laughter] Many.  I bring my family down once a year.  This is probably my kids sixth or seventh trip to Disneyland.  We come to Disneyland every year.  It’s something my kids look forward to every year.  Every year they get a little braver and dare to go on more of the scary rides.  For me, as a parent, it’s really fun to see my children's eyes light up as they go on a new ride for the first time or go on their favorite rides over and over again.

Disneyland_2_011 Patrick Wiscombe:  Have they dressed the Tower of Terror for Halloween?

Wade Stocker:  Not really.  It’s already spooky enough.  They did put some Halloween decorations on the inside, but on the outside there are no decorations.  In fact, the California Adventure Park isn’t really dressed up at all during the day.

Patrick Wiscombe:  So what is your favorite ride?

Wade Stocker:   Well, you know it depends on which park I’m at.  In the California Adventure Park I love California Screamin’ and the Tower of Terror.  At the Disneyland Park I love Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, and Splash Mountain.  I guess it depends on what kind of mood I'm in.  I love all the rides here at Disneyland.  I'm a kid at heart and that’s why I like coming down here so much.

Patrick Wiscombe:  People who are coming down to the Disneyland Resort for the UEA break or the holiday season, how many days should people budget for the Disneyland Resort?

California_screamin_2 Wade Stocker:  I would recommend at least three days.  I think three days gives you a good feel for both parks.  You can do each park one day then on the third day you can hit the rides that you want to hit again or try new things you didn’t try.  I would say a minimum of three days.  We have been here six days and we just keep going on the rides that are our favorites or we try new rides we went past. [Children screaming in the background]

Patrick Wiscombe:  We can hear everyone screaming in the background.  Where are you standing in the park?  Give us an audio tour.

Wade Stocker:  Well, I'm standing next to this beautiful palm tree right here by the Paradise Pier.  I'm standing here overlooking the big body of water that’s inside the Disney’s California Adventure Park.  Those screams you're hearing are from the California Screamin’ roller coaster.  The roller coaster pulls around and stops.  That’s where it launches all of the occupants.  It does a count down of 5-4-3-2-1, then takes off.   It goes about 50 mph as it heads up the track.  So those screams are happening when it takes off.  It’s a fun area.  It has a great California feel.  I'm looking at the Sun Wheel and the Maliboomer next to it.  There's a great big orange, which is an attraction that has the swings inside of it.  It has a fun California ocean side feel to the park.

Disneyhalloweentime2 Patrick Wiscombe:  Is Holly or Adrienne there with you?

Wade Stocker:  Yeah, let me get Holly.  Here’s Holly.

    Holly Stocker:  (Wade’s Daughter)
    Hi Patrick.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Hi Holly.  How are you?
    Holly Stocker:  (Wade’s Daughter)
    I’m good.  How are you?

Patrick Wiscombe:  I’m doing good, thank you.  What is your favorite thing about Disneyland?

Holly Stocker:  I like California Screamin’ and the Tower of Terror.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Oh, did you go on California Screamin?

Holly Stocker:  We just did.  It was a blast.

Patrick Wiscombe:  What are you going on next?

Holly Stocker:  We are going over to the Tower of Terror.

Hauntedmansionchristmas Patrick Wiscombe:  Well, have a good ride for me, okay?

Holly Stocker:  Okay, here's my dad. Bye.

    Wade Stocker:  [Laughter]

Patrick Wiscombe:  [Laughter] That was brief and to the point.  Go have fun Wade, I’ll talk to you a little bit later.  That was Wade Stocker, Operations Director for Get Away Today.com.  While I have a second, let me remind all of you to go to the Get Away Today homepage and sign up for our 'Last Minute Travel Alerts' e-mail.  All you have to do is go to Get Away Today.com and look at the top of the homepage.  There you will see our travel alerts section.  Type your e-mail address in that space.  The e-mail we sent yesterday afternoon was promoting our third, fourth, or fifth night free promotion depending on which hotel you reserve.  It’s a great time to go down to the Disneyland Resort this holiday season.  Take your family, it will be a vacation you'll talk about for years.

Travel news you can use.  This is the Get Away Today Travel Show podcast.

Patrick Wiscombe:  (Get Away Today - Internet Marketing Manager)
This is the Get Away Today Travel Show podcast.  Thank you for tuning in and taking us along.  My name is Patrick Wiscombe.   Coming up in the next 5 minutes, were going to take you on an audio tour of the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego.  Julie Chavarria the Sales Director for the Rancho Bernardo Inn is in studio with me right now.  Let’s talk about the resort.

Castillo20suite Julie Chavarria: (Rancho Bernardo Inn – Sales Director)
The Rancho Bernardo Inn is a four diamond Golf and Spa Resort located in the north part of San Diego.  We are 25 minutes northeast of downtown San Diego and one exit away from the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park.  We are definitely a destination resort.  We have 18 holes of golf onsite.  We also have a fabulous spa that just underwent a full renovation.  We have added six outdoor treatment cabanas that are temperature controlled.  You can have a spa treatment outside during the height of summer or during winter.  It doesn’t matter what time of year it is because you’ll always be nice and comfortable.  We also added an outdoor garden, a water feature, and an exclusive spa pool. We also renovated all of our rooms in May.  The rooms are absolutely gorgeous.  They are very upscale and have a classic feel.  Each room also has the plantation shutters.  We also have a king bed that comes from the corner of the room which is a signature for J. C. Resorts.  It has banquet style headboards which is very cool.  The granite nightstands are built into the wall.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Are the night stands on both sides of the bed?

    Julie Chavarria:  Yes.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Is that an iPod stereo?

Shutter20guest20room Julie Chavarria:  Yes.  The Rancho Bernardo Inn is very high tech.  We have plasma televisions, DVD players, the iPod stereo units.  It’s just absolutely amazing.  In our new rooms which we just renovated this year, we offer two views; an interior courtyard view looking over lush tropical gardens or you can have our golf course view.  Because we’re a golf resort, we get a lot of golfers that want to overlook the course while they stay with us.

Patrick Wiscombe:  I always like hearing the little ‘tink’ as the golf ball hits the club.

Julie Chavarria:  Oh yes.  Golfers love that as well!  Are you a golfer?

    Patrick Wiscombe:  [laughter] No!

Jcr_rb_205cc Julie Chavarria:  Well, if you want to learn, we also have several pros onsite that will teach lessons to men, women, and children.  That’s something nice for the family to do as well.  We have two restaurants onsite.  El Bizcocho is our fine dining restaurant.  It is absolutely amazing.  Zagat voted it the number one resort restaurant in San Diego for many years in a row.  Our chef, Gavin Kaysen, was voted one of the top 10 young chefs by Food and Wine magazine.  Gavin is 28 years old.  He is very excited to receive this award.  This is great for El Bizcocho, the Rancho Bernardo Inn, and of course, Gavin. We are really excited to have him on our team.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Just in case you subscribe to this magazine, it’s the May 2007 edition of Food and Wine magazine.  He is the guy in the bottom left corner without the glasses.

Evening20view Julie Chavarria:  Yes, that’s correct.  El Bizcocho serves dinner nightly and Sunday brunch.  It’s extremely upscale so we do have a dress code.  No jeans.  Jackets are recommended but ties are not required.  We also have another dining option called the Veranda.  The Veranda is our resort casual breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurant.  So, you can cruise in wearing your flip-flops and short or you can come right from the golf course to have lunch.  It is absolutely family friendly as well.  The third dining option is our sports bar which has a pool table and big screen TVs for all the big sporting events.  The sports bar serves a light fare like burgers, salads, and other things like that.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Let’s talk about the stay and play package for the Rancho Bernardo Inn?

Ranchobernardogolf Julie Chavarria:  Our stay and play package is phenomenal because it really allows the customer to build their own vacation.  With our stay and play package you can book through Get Away Today, we offer the one play option per adult, per room, per night.  Our play options are golf, spa treatment, or an adult theme park ticket to the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park, San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, or Legoland.  Say you have a family member staying in San Diego for five days.  What they can do with our stay and play package is basically customize it how they want.  For example, your dad wants to golf on the first day and your mom does spa.  The next day they both do spa.  The third day they take the whole family to Legoland.  The fourth day they take the whole family to Seaworld.  You can really customize the package for what you want to experience in San Diego and the Rancho Bernardo Inn

Patrick Wiscombe:  How many rooms do you have?

Julie Chavarria:  The Rancho Bernardo Inn has 287 guest rooms and suites.

Patrick Wiscombe:  So, it’s a big place.

Jcr_rb_268 Julie Chavarria:  It is.  There are eight separate buildings ranging from two floors to five floors.  We have seven jacuzzi’s which is really cool.  So, lots of jacuzzi’s and we have three swimming pools.  There are two wineries nearby.  The north part of San Diego also offers good shopping.

Patrick Wiscombe:  (Get Away Today Internet Marketing Manager)
This is the Get Away Today Travel Show Podcast.  I'm Patrick Wiscombe; Internet Marketing Manager for the Get Away Today website and blog.  Coming up in the next 10 minutes, I want to take you on an audio tour of the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel located on the north side of the Disneyland Resort.  They just finished a 12 million dollar renovation.  They have the largest hotel rooms in Anaheim and they offer free shuttle service between the hotel and the Disneyland Resort.  They only offer king and queen size beds.  The hotel sits on 13 acres of land so instead of building up, they actually built out.   With that said, let me introduce Ato Silvano, the Sales Manager for the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel.    Let's talk about the hotel renovation.

Queenbeds_2 Ato Silvano:  (Sheraton Anaheim Hotel Sales Manager)
The owners spent 12 million dollars fixing the entire property.  We just finished our pool area.  We're adding another bus because we're extending our complimentary shuttle service to and from the Disneyland Resort for our guests.  The support we've received from Get Away Today and our repeat guests has been huge.  Sixty percent of the guests that stay at the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel come back.  That's a big number so we must be doing something right.

PW:  Tell us more about the renovation.  You mentioned the pool but let's talk about the rooms.  The rooms are really spectacular, some stunning upgrades.

Pool AS:  I've been with this property for two years.  I was talking with the Anaheim Convention people and they came over to the hotel after listening to one of my hotel speeches and they told me we have the largest hotels rooms in the Anaheim area.  They're over 500 square feet.

PW:  That's funny you should say that because I overheard somebody at lunch talking about the size of your hotel rooms.  With that much space, that would be very accommodating for families.

AS:  Remember this is a legendary hotel that was built over 30 years ago by a designer or contractor that wanted to have big rooms.  We've taken advantage of the space by renovating it using the standards of Starwood and Sheraton.  It's wonderful.  We have the Sheraton Suite sleeper bed that everybody likes to sleep on.  We can also put two roll-away beds in a room and you can still move around.

PW:  So you're not pinned up against the walls.

Towerking AS:  Never.   [laughter]  Some guests have asked us if we're showing them a deluxe room or a suite.  We tell them no and let them know that this is this size of our standard room.  The Sheraton Anaheim Hotel is the highest rated hotel in the Sheraton family of hotel properties.  We want to keep that rating.

PW:  It has a couch and it looks like you have a desk or coffee table.  Oh, it's both.  Do you have high speed internet access?

AS:  We have wired and wireless internet access in the room.  Many people come down to the lobby and work because we have a fireplace in the lobby area.  The fire is on but it's not hot.  People really enjoy being there because of its home like atmosphere.  I think many guests come back because of that.

PW:  and you're not afraid to take off your shoes.

Pool2 AS:  [laughter] That's true.  We have a huge couch, similar to the kind of couch you would see in New York.  It plays a lot of roles at the hotel.  In the morning you see a lot of kids running around it.  In the afternoon, you'll see a lot of tired people resting there.  In the evening it becomes a cozy place for people to wait for their dinner appointments.

PW:  Let's talk about the bed.  That's what people are paying for when they come to a hotel.

AS:  We don't have any double beds.  We only offer king and queen size beds.

PW:  Do you have shuttle service at the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel?  I''m assuming you would offer that service, especially to the Disneyland Resort area.

Bilevelsuite AS:  Yes.  The Sheraton Anaheim Hotel provides free shuttle service to and from the Disneyland Resort every 30 minutes.  Instead of charging the guests, we provide the service at no charge.  Our bus runs during Disneyland's operating hours.

PW:  That has to be a huge selling point.

AS:  Yes.  It's easy to say that our shuttle service is complimentary because most hotels don't offer a free shuttle service for their guests.

PW:  Do you offer connecting rooms at the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel?

AS:  Yes.  Eighty percent (80%) of the rooms at the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel are connected to other rooms.

Arcade PW:  What is a bi-level suite?  I'm going to conclude based on that description that you offer two levels inside some of your rooms.

AS:  I mentioned earlier that our hotel was built over 30 years ago.  It's rare for a hotel to offer two levels.

PW:  So you do have it.  That is unique.

AS:  Yes, we do.  It's very very unique.  We just like showing our guests that we offer bi-level suites.  Bi-level suites are very rare now.

PW:  You have the coffee and tea makers inside the rooms.  You have the iron and ironing boards which is very standard these days.  Do the rooms at the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel have refrigerators?

Lowerlobby AS:  We just purchased new refrigerators for all of the rooms.  We had to make a big decision if we wanted each room to have refrigerators or safety boxes.  We decided that the refrigerators would be more beneficial for our guests. They bring kids and they have beverages that need to stay cold.  We decided to install the new mini refrigerators inside the guest rooms.

PW:  So, these are mini refrigerators and not the full size refrigerators?

AS:  Yes.  We purchased the mini refrigerators.  They're a good size.  They're a very good size.

PW:  You have room service that's available.  You offer in-room movies.  I would image you order the movies using you television remote like you would anywhere else.   You have 500 rooms.

Deli AS:  Most people who drive down the freeway don't realize how large our hotel is.  In fact, most people think we're a small property.  We're on 13 acres.  Once you enter, it spreads out.  It's not a high rise.  It only three floors.  People tell us that the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel doesn't feel like a hotel.   For them, it's a place to come where they can be comfortable.  We're not like those block hotels that go up 20 floors.  The Sheraton Anaheim Hotel is very homey.

PW:  I literally saw this at another eight or nine story property.  You access the room from the outside.   I saw a family who appeared to be scared of heights hugging the inside wall of the outside corridor just to get to their room.

AS:  My wife doesn't like heights.  She won't stay at a hotel that faces outside.

PW:  You don't need to worry about your kids falling through the gaps in the fence.  If you have handicap needs, you have handicap accessible rooms.  You have cable channels; you've got the in-room safes.  You know, the last time I was down there I used the in-room safe.

Restaurant AS:  I mentioned a few minutes ago, we are getting rid of the in-room safes.  Some rooms still have them but we're making the transition to the in-room mini refrigerators.  The in-room safes will be transferred to our front desk.  We've never had a problem with safe availability at the front desk.  Not many guests will bring their expensive jewelry.  Some guests will bring important documents like passports but we can handle the load with the number of safes we have at the front desk.

    PW:  You have hair dryers?

AS:  If you've been to the Sheraton Anaheim Hotel, the hairdryers were stuck to the wall and you had the cord that coiled.  Our hair dryers aren't stuck to the wall and the cord isn't coiled.  They have pretty strong power.  There in the bathroom.  Because there not stuck to the wall, some guests just drop them in their luggage because there so portable.  There are some guests that think that our hairdryers are benefit so I'm constantly ordering more dryers.

PW:  You have cribs in case a family forgets to bring their crib.  Sometimes you simply run out of room to transport a crib.

AS:  Our cribs follow strict safety standards and their very nice.  You can use our cribs.  It's a complimentary service.  There a nice benefit for your Get Away Today business.

PW:  Nice plug.  You have parking.  You have an outdoor pool.  I've always said that it doesn't matter where you go on vacation if your kids can jump in the pool.  You do have one, correct?

AS:  Yes, we have a pool.  We just refurbished the pool.  It's a heated pool so the temperature remains consistent throughout the year.  We also have a jacuzzi.

PW:  A lot of people forget they need to eat when they go on vacation so let's talk about restaurants.  What restaurants are around the hotel and what are the on-site restaurants.

AS:  We are a simple property.  We have one restaurant called the Garden Court Bistro.  It's open from 6am to 11pm.  They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  We offer room service.  We accept our last order around midnight.  Sometimes it depends on the Disneyland hours.  We can sit 260 people.  It's right beside the lobby.  If you don't want a formal setup, guests can go to the California Deli.  The deli opens at 6am and closes pretty late in the evening because guests are hungry when they come back from Disneyland.  The gift shop is right beside the deli so you can dine inside the deli if you want to have a casual atmosphere.
