This year’s Halloween Horror Nights will feature four new mazes and the new edition of the “Terror Tram,” which will allow guests to venture on foot through the legendary Universal Studios Hollywood backlot.

Halloween Horror Nights will be take place on Friday and Saturday nights in October. Event dates are: October 5-6, 12-13, 19-20, 26-28 and 31. The event will begin each night at 7:00 p.m.  Closing hours vary by night during the event.

Freddy, Jason and Leatherface will each be featured within his own labyrinth of carnage, elevating the Halloween Horror Nights experience to appalling levels of madness and mayhem.

BatesmotelEach of the mazes will capture the gruesome tone of the notorious films.  They will catapult horror fans to an excruciating level of intimacy often kept at a safe distance by virtue of the movie or television screen.

The popular “Terror Tram” experience will allow guests to get off the tram and walk among the historic sets of the Universal backlot, birthplace of the horror genre. The backlot experience—incorporating such Hollywood landmarks as Psycho House, Bates Motel and the “War of the Worlds” airplane crash disaster scene—will play a pivotal role in the reemergence of Freddy, Jason and Leatherface where guests-victims will weave through the debauchery and fall prey to their tortured, sadistic minds.

Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights” will also feature a series of specially created, spine-tingling entertainment adding an alarming element to the overall Halloween experience. Highlights include the new “House of Horrors” maze where Universal’s most notorious monsters will descend upon guests as they navigate the creepy confines of vampire lairs, cannibal caves and psycho film slashers.

Freddykruger Universal Studios Hollywood’s favorite attractions will remain open for the nighttime Halloween Horror Nights experience, but many will feature a menacing twist. The standing sets and themed streets of the theme park will be transformed into a bloodbath, as if scenes from horror films that were left on cutting room floor exploded to life. A transformed “WaterWorld,” “Jurassic Park—In the Dark,” the “Revenge of the Mummy” psychological thrill ride roller coaster and “Terminator 2:3D” will all seem like tranquil respites from Jason, Freddy and Leatherface’s bedlam.

“Chucky’s Insult Emporium” will provide a mix of menace and humor to the event, and the ingenious sleight-of-sight performances by two internationally renowned stunt magicians, Kevin James and Brian Bushwood, will feature an original mix of unusual feats from risky fire-eating stunts to tactfully hammering nails into eyeballs and sawing people in half before literally re-attaching them before guests’ very eyes.

Travel news you can use.  This is the Get Away Today.com Travel Show.  Get Away Today is a top provider of affordable, fun family vacations to Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Hawaii, San Diego, Beaches, and Sandals in the Caribbean. Patrick Wiscombe:  (Get Away Today Internet Marketing Manager)
This is the Get Away Today Travel Show podcast.  Thank you for listening.  My name is Patrick Wiscombe.  Coming up in the next five minutes, we’ll be talking about the Disneyland Hotel located west of Downtown Disney.  Jennifer Dunyon, Vice President of Communications at Get Away Today, joins me in-studio to talk about the Disneyland Hotel.  If you want to have an authentic, magical Disney experience then we suggest staying at the Disneyland Hotel.  Let's talk about the hotel.

Disneyland_room_view_3Jennifer Dunyon:  (Get Away Today Vice President of Communications)
When you go into your hotel room, the first thing you’ll see is the pixie dust wallpaper.  Tinkerbell is flying around the room.  That's where the sprinkles of pixie dust come from.

When you walk into the Disneyland Hotel you might see Goofy.  Sometimes he’s outside the hotel waiting to greet you as you’re checking in. Last time we were there we went to get on the elevator; we pushed the button and out walked Goofy.  My kids were so excited.  They thought wow, Goofy really does lives here.  I told them he was going to the kitchen to cook their breakfast.  I said that because Goofy's Kitchen, his restaurant, is inside the Disneyland Hotel.

PoolnightThe Disneyland Hotel is a great spot to see all of the classic Disney characters.  Let’s start with Goofy’s Kitchen.  It’s a great breakfast, lunch, and dinner spot.  They offer a character breakfast.  It’s my favorite place for the character breakfast because you can go and see Goofy as well as the other Disney characters.  It's a lot of fun for the entire family.  They come out and dance every 20 to 30 minutes.  They bang the pots and pans which signals the beginning of a new dance.  Then you can go over and do the Macarena with all the characters.  The food is delicious but it’s also kind of 'Goofy.'   There will be peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, pizza, but you can add gummy worms to the food.  It’s those special things that kids really love.  Once again, you can go to Goofy’s Kitchen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  The characters are there for all three meals.  The Disneyland Hotel is a great place for birthday parties and celebrations. It's also a fun place to start your day before heading out to the Disneyland Park

D583 The Disneyland Hotel pool area is based on the movie Peter Pan and is dressed up like Never Land.  It's just fabulous.  It's like going into the movie with all the mermaids and Captain Hook.  It's very magical.  Another cool thing about the Disneyland Hotel is they offer life vests at the swimming pool for your children.  They also have lifeguards on duty so it’s a lot safer.  They also have wading pools for the younger children.  It's really a lot of fun!  All three of the Disney hotels have lifeguards on duty and life vests for children.   You don’t need to pack all of that stuff when you go on vacation.  I think they even have swim diapers to purchase if you have very young children.  They’ve really thought of everything the family would need and have it available to you.

D523 They have great little shops inside the hotel where you can buy souvenirs.  They have an arcade and a fitness center.  You’re within walking distance to the park or you can ride the monorail.  The check-in process is simple and fast.  While your children are waiting for you to check in, there's a little movie theater room that they can watch Disney movies.  It's just a magical experience.

Patrick Wiscombe:  The Disneyland Hotel is located just west of the ESPN Zone, which is a nice gathering place.  Some of the restaurants that are right near the Disneyland Hotel are the Rainforest Café.  That’s the restaurant closest to the hotel.

Jennifer Dunyon:  They also have a great steakhouse inside the Disneyland Hotel.  I forgot the name.  I know it’s really close to Goofy’s Kitchen.   They also have Captain Hook’s Point and offer sells seafood and steaks as well.  That restaurant is located near the swimming pool area.  They also have a fun, to-go area if you want to get some food and take off.  You can get sandwiches, yogurt, and bagels.  That's place is located near Goofy’s Kitchen as well.  They have lots of dining options; it’s a really a great place to stay.  We’ve eaten at all of the restaurants and the food is great.  They also have kid menus for your children.  They offer Mickey Mouse shaped chicken nuggets and Mickey Mouse shaped macaroni and cheese noodles.  The in-room dining is really good.  We use that a lot when we stay at the Disneyland Hotel

C985 Patrick Wiscombe:  A lot of people don’t know that Mickey’s Penthouse is located within the Disneyland Hotel.  Let's talk about that for a minute.

Jennifer Dunyon:  Don't we all want to win that?  Its part of Disney’s Year of a Million Dreams.  Guests are chosen randomly inside the Disneyland Park.  If they’re chosen, they get to stay inside the Mickey Mouse penthouse.  It's was decorated by Minnie Mouse herself.  The penthouse offers so many Disney extras.  We actually had a Get Away Today employee stay there.  He told me it was such a wonderful experience.

Patrick Wiscombe:  When Jake was awarded the vacation to go stay inside Mickey’s Penthouse, he told me there was a small balcony where you could watch the fireworks show but you could hear the music because it was being piped into the room.

Jennifer Dunyon:  Disney thinks of everything.  What an awesome experience!

This is the Get Away Today Travel Show Podcast.  My name is Patrick Wiscombe.  Coming up in the next five minutes, I'm going to take you on an audio tour of the Surf and Sand Resort located on beautiful Laguna Beach.  The Surf and Sand Resort is located 25 minutes south of the Disneyland Resort and one hour north of San Diego. Julie Chavarria, Sales Manager for the Surf and Sand Resort, joins me in the Get Away Today studio.  Let’s talk about the resort.

Julie Chavarria:  (Surf and Sand Resort - Sales Manager)
Thank you so much Patrick, it's good to be here.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Where should we start?

Surfandsandguesttv Julie Chavarria:  Let's start in Laguna Beach.  I have the fabulous Surf and Sand Resort, which is our oceanfront property.  Our resort is located right on the sand right in the heart of the Laguna Beach.  Every single room has an ocean view.  Our deluxe rooms overlook the pool  as well as the Pacific Ocean.  Our premier rooms, which are in our tower building, overlook the ocean.  Every single room has a private balcony or patio so you're able to enjoy your dinner on your own private balcony while you watch and listen to the ocean waves crash.  You can enjoy a cocktail or some champagne or whatever you like and enjoy a beautiful view of the ocean.

Patrick Wiscombe:  It's a big balcony too!

Surf_and_sand_restaurant_3Julie Chavarria:  It is.  It's very nice.  It has enough room for the whole family.  We just completed a full room renovation in May 2006.  The rooms are absolutely gorgeous, very soothing.  As I said, every room has a patio or a balcony.  Each room has one king or two queen beds in it.  The Surf and Sand Resort is also high-tech.  We have flat screen television, DVD players, and iHome stereos where you can plug your iPod in to play your own music.  The king rooms also have a pullout sofa sleeper which is great for families.  The parents can sleep in the king bed and the children can sleep on the sofa sleeper.  You can actually lie in bed and see the Pacific Ocean which is really nice.

Patrick Wiscombe:  I guess you can open up the doors and listen to the waves crash.

Julie Chavarria:  Yes you can.  We actually have earplugs in the guest rooms just in case it’s too loud for some guests.  For me, it puts me right to sleep.  We also have another great program called the S’mores and Snores program.  It’s great for kids and it’s a program we offer to all of our guests.  We will set up a child sized tent in the guest room complete with a child sized sleeping bag.  The sleeping bags are either blue or pink.  At turn down, we put the S’mores snack bar on the sleeping bag.  It's a huge hit with families.  It's also another really nice way for the parents to keep the king size bed while the kids feel like they have been on a camping trip in Laguna Beach.  The parents feel like they've been on a luxury trip.  It’s really been a huge hit!

Patrick Wiscombe:  Did you say the tents are set up in the room?

Surf_and_sand_restaurant2_2 Julie Chavarria:  Yes.  We set up the tents in your room so the kids can sleep in them.  It's great for kids ages eight, nine, and maybe even ten.  The Surf and Sand Resort also has a fabulous restaurant called Splashes.  The Splashes restaurant overlooks the ocean.  We just completed a full remodel in May 2007, so the restaurant has a new look.  We also have a cocktail lounge which is on the beach level.  It really explains why we call the restaurant Splashes.  If the tide is high, the waves will splash right on the windows.  No suit is required because it’s a casual dress restaurant.  We want to encourage families to come in and eat with us.  It’s also a great restaurant to have a romantic dinner.  So if you're on your honeymoon or just on a romantic getaway, we can seat you where you’ll have more privacy.  The main dining room is where we put families.

Patrick Wiscombe:  Do you have internet access there at the Surf and Sand Resort?

Surf_and_sand_spa_3 Julie Chavarria:  Absolutely.  We also have a great new business center that has three new computers.  It also has a coffee bar and a place to get sandwiches.  You can also get drinks.  The business center is a deli, gift shop and business center.  It turned out really nice.

Patrick Wiscombe:  What's this were looking at here?

Julie Chavarria:  This is the Aquaterra spa.  We have a fabulous, upscale spa and our couples massage area overlooks the ocean.  You can pretty much see the ocean from anywhere on the Surf and Sand Resort property.  That's a really nice benefit at our resort hotel.  We have a great fitness center.  We offer yoga on the beach and a lot of great activities for guests that are staying with us.  Laguna Beach is about 1 hour south of Los Angeles and about 1 hour and 15 minutes north of San Diego.  It's a great place to stay if you’re going to Disneyland and go to the beach for few days.  We’re only 25 minutes from the Disneyland Resort.  We offer a completely different vacation experience than other hotels that surround the Disneyland Resort.  You can come and lay on the beach for a few days.  You will absolutely love it here at the Surf and Sand Resort.
